So Please, Don’t Change

One last hug before I stepped into the car.
Rolled down the window for the longest goodnight.
And so we play the driveway game.
Back and forth…
“I’m leaving.”
“Goodnight.”
“No, stay for a while.”
“Just stay? Well, alright.”
Turned down the radio and drove home alone.
Two tears down my cheek write a simple song,
About two good friends forgetting who they were.

I’ve been in and out of bars,
Trying to catch up to you.

Caught the 6th bus back to Oak St.

The Things I did Yesterday

Flushed the medicine down,
Packed up my things and left that town.
“Bought” a new car and,
Stole someone’s wife.
Made off with her cash card,
And bought a new life.
